Salman Khan made his acting debut with a supporting role in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi in which his voice was dubbed by someone else.
His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one of India's highest grossing films. It earned him his first nomination for a Best Actor at Filmfare, but the much expected Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut was awarded to Sooraj Barjatya.
Baaghi: A Rebel for Love is a Bollywood Action romantic drama film, starring Salman Khan, Nagma, and Shakti Kapoor, which was released in 21 December 1990. It was Nagma's first role in Bollywood; as the opening credits note, she was 15 years old when the film was released.

The film was directed by Rakesh Roshan and written by Ravi Kapoor and Sachin Bhowmick. Karan Arjun is a mix of an upbeat Bollywood musical, religious overtones and an action movie. The film was the second biggest hit of 1995 after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge which also starred Shahrukh Khan. At the end of the run, it was declared a "Blockbuster"
Khamoshi: The Musical is a 1996 Indian musical drama film which was released on 9 August 1996. It starred Nana Patekar, Manisha Koirala, Salman Khan, Seema Biswas and Helen, and marked Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial debut. The film won several awards and grossed ₹77.5 million (US$1.2 million) in India.

Biwi No.1 is a 1999 Bollywood comedy film directed by David Dhawan. It stars Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Anil Kapoor and Tabu. Saif Ali Khan has a special appearance. It is remake of the 1995 Tamil film Sathi Leelavathi. The plot has inspired the 2005 comedy hit Kannada movie Rama Shama Bhama starring Kamal Hassan,Ramesh Aravind,Urvashi and Daisy Bopanna.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is a 1999 Bollywood romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was released in the English-speaking world as Straight from the Heart. The film stars Salman Khan,Aishwarya Rai,Ajay Devgan.
The story is adopted from Maitreyi Devi's Bengali novel Na Hanyate, and is based on a love triangle. It also reflects the influence of the German novella Immensee and the 1943 Nazi kala film based on it, Immensee and also has inspiration from 1983 movie Woh 7 Din. It was filmed throughout the Gujarat-Rajasthan border region, in addition to Budapest, Hungary, which was used to represent Italy. The film was premiered in the Indian Panorama section at the 1999 International Film Festival of India.[4] The film was remade in Bengali as Neel Akasher Chandni in 2009, with Jeet reprising Salman Khan's role, Jishu Sengupta reprising Ajay Devgan's role, and Koel Mallick reprising Aishwarya Rai's role.
Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega is a 2000 Bollywood film directed by Raj Kanwar. The film stars Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji with a special appearance by Shah Rukh Khan. It was highly praised by the critics and was the third hit in a row by Salman Khan-Sajid Nadiadwala (producer) collaboration. It became the fourth highest grosser of the year. The film is a remake of 1997 Malayalam film Chandralekha starring Mohanlal and the plot also has some minor elements loosely based on the film While You Were Sleeping.
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is a 2001 Hindi movie directed by Abbas-Mustan. It stars Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is probably the first Bollywood movie to handle the taboo issue of surrogate childbirth.
Some of the scenes in the film have been borrowed from Pretty Woman (1990), and the storyline is similar to Doosri Dulhan by Lekh Tandon.
In 2001, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) seized prints of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, after it was discovered the movie was funded by the Chhota Shakeel of Mumbai underworld, which has resulted in a well publicised controversy known as The Bharat Shah Case.
Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam is a Hindi film released on 24 May 2002. The film features Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. The film opened to strong collections at the box-office and went on to gross ₹565 million (US$8.5 million) worldwide. It was the third highest grosser of 2004 and was declared a "Hit" by Box Office India.
No Entry is a Hindi comedy film released in 2005. It was directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Boney Kapoor. The film features an ensemble cast of Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley, Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu with a cameo appearance by Sameera Reddy. A remake of the Tamil super hit Charlie Chaplin (film), No Entry was Bollywood's biggest hit of 2005.
Jaan-E-Mann is a 2006 Bollywood romantic comedy drama film starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The movie is directed by Shirish Kunder and is produced by Sajid Nadiawala. The film re-unites Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar post the success of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004). This was Shirish Kunder's first film as a director. He also edited and wrote the dialogues and screenplay.

Wanted is 2009 Indian action thriller film directed by Prabhu Deva. The film stars Salman Khan , Ayesha Takia, Prakash Raj, Vinod Khanna and Mahesh Manjrekar in the lead roles. It is an official remake of a Telugu film Pokiri, and Tamil film Pokkiri starring Mahesh Babu, Illeana D'Cruz and Vijay, Asin respectively. The film released on 18 September 2009, and broke many records at the box office upon release, due to Khan's comeback. Wanted was also the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year 2009. In an interview Mahesh Babu who played the lead role in the original said that Salman Khan was the perfect person in the remake of his movie, because of his personality and attitude. From this movie eid is reckoned as the time when a Salman Khan movie hits the theaters with wave of peoples flooding to watch him. Wanted was declared Superhit by Box Office India when the film ended it's box office run, but in 2015 Box Office India changed their 6 year old verdict for the movie and re declared it a Hit
Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is a 2009 Indian romance film starring Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sohail Khan in pivotal roles with Dino Morea, Nauheed Cyrusi, Yash Tonk and Bappi Lahiri in supporting roles while Preity Zinta and Deepika Padukone make a special appearance. Directed by debutant Prem Soni, the film, which revolves around the theme of extramarital affair, is a joint production of Sohail Khan Productions and UTV SpotBoy Pictures. The film is produced by Sohail Khan and Ronnie Screwvala, and was released on 16 October 2009.

Veer: An Epic Love story of a Warrior is a 2010 Indian historical action film directed by Anil Sharma, and starring Salman Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan, Jackie Shroff and Zarine Khan. The film was written by Salman Khan and set during the 1825 Pindari movement of Rajasthan, when India was ruled by the British.
Dabangg is a 2010 Indian action film directed by Abhinav Kashyap, and produced by Arbaaz Khan under Arbaaz Khan Productions. Arbaaz's elder brother Salman Khan stars in the lead role, with Sonakshi Sinha (in her acting debut), Arbaaz Khan, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar and Mahie Gill featuring in supporting roles, while Sonu Sood plays the main antagonist. The film marks the debut of Arbaaz as a producer and Kashyap as a director. Malaika Arora Khan appears in the item number "Munni Badnaam Hui".

The first look was unveiled on 5 April 2011, while the theatrical trailer was released on 15 April 2011. The film was released on 3 June 2011. Upon release, Ready became the second highest opening-day grosser, as well as the second highest weekend grossing Bollywood film, after Dabangg, another Salman Khan-starrer. It holds the record for being second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011.
Bodyguard is a 2011 Indian action film directed by Siddique. It is a remake of the director's own 2010 Malayalam film of the same name starring Dileep and Nayantara. The film was produced by Atul Agnihotri and featured Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. It also stars Raj Babbar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Hazel Keech in supporting roles. The film's first look and theatrical trailer was unveiled on 21 July 2011. Bodyguard was released on 31 August 2011 across 2,250 screens in 70 Indian cities and with 482 prints across the overseas territory. Bodyguard was released in 3250 theatres worldwide.
Ek Tha Tiger is a 2012 Indian action spy film, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films. It stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, and features Ranvir Shorey, Girish Karnad, Roshan Seth and Gavie Chahal in supporting roles. The film was the third collaboration of Kabir Khan with Yash Raj Films after Kabul Express (2006) and New York (2009). The plot centers on an Indian spy (RAW) code-named Tiger who falls in love with a Pakistani spy (ISI) during an investigation and how Tiger's ideology and principles change over time.
Pre-production of Ek Tha Tiger started in the second half of 2010 after the script had been completed. Principal photography commenced on September 2011 and ended in June 2012. The film was shot in five countries. Initially scheduled for a release on June 2012, the film's release was delayed and it opened on 15 August 2012, coinciding with India's Independence Day was holiday which celebrates on 65th anniversary to the marked.
Dabangg 2 is a 2012 Indian action film directed and produced by Arbaaz Khan under the banner of Arbaaz Khan Productions. It's a sequel to the 2010 film Dabangg and the second installment of Dabangg film series. It is written by Dilip Shukla. The story is set in the city of Kanpur. The film features Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha reprising their roles from the previous film, whilst Prakash Raj plays the antagonist.
Jai Ho is a 2014 Indian action drama film directed by Sohail Khan and produced by Khan along with Sunil Lulla. The film stars Salman Khan, Tabu and Sunil Shetty alongside Danny Denzongpa as the antagonist. It features cameo appearances by Sunil Shetty and Genelia D'Souza. The film is an official remake of the 2006 Telugu film Stalin directed by A. R. Murugadoss, with the plot of the film being inspired from Pay it Forward.
Jai Ho released on 24 January 2014 along 3900 Screens in India and taking Overseas around 650 Screens, to mixed critical reception but was declared a Semi Hit by the Box Office India.

Kick is a 2014 Indian action film film produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala under his Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner. It is an official remake of a Telgu movie Kick which is released in 2009. The film features Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Randeep Hooda in the lead role and Nawazuddin Siddiqui , portraying the main antagonist of the film. The screenplay is adapted by Sajid Nadiadwala and Chetan Bhagat. The film released on 25 July 2014 in about 5000 screens worldwide.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a 2015 Indian comedy-drama film directed by Kabir Khan. Scripted by V. Vijayendra Prasad, the film was produced by Salman Khan and Rockline Venkatesh. It features Salman Khan, Harshaali Malhotra, Kareena Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles. Principal photography began in New Delhi in November 2014, and the film had a worldwide release on July 17, 2015 during the Eid weekend.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan became the fastest Hindi film to cross one billion and two billion Rupees domestically and is currently the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in India and second highest-grossing Bollywood film in international markets. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is also the third Indian film and second Hindi film to net Rs 3 billion in India and 6 billion worldwide. The film crossed 3.5 crore viewers which makes it the most watched Indian film ever since Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001 and beating PK, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3 and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
